Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk won the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2021. In the final of the championship hosted in Sochi, Kosteniuk, 37, defeated Russian Alexandra Goryachkina 1.5-0.5 and is currently the world’s 12th women’s champion.
Russia’s Sergey Karyakin scored the first pass to the men’s final after defeating Russian Vladimir Fedoseev 1.5-0.5
World’s champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen tied both classic games of the semi-final with Polish chess player Jan-Krzysztof Duda and will continue the competition in the tie-break of rapid chess on Aug. 3.
