Olympic VLOG: Artur Barseghyan

NEWS.am Sport continues to present its Olympic VLOG program about Armenia’s athletes who have qualified for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo.

Artur Barseghyan, swimmer, 50m and 100m freestyle

He was born on March 29, 2002 in Yerevan.

Artur Barseghyan is a multiple champion and record holder for juniors, youth and seniors of Armenia, and winner of international tournaments.

His first major experience as a senior was at the 2016 Swimming World Cup at UAE where he set a personal record and improved his results, but did not win a medal.

In 2017, he participated in the European Olympic Festival in Hungary where he placed sixth. In the same year he fulfilled—at the world junior championship—the norm of an international-class master of sports.

In 2018, he achieved—at the Helsinki international tournament—a rating of the youth Olympic games. In the same year, he came in seventh in the 50m freestyle at the youth Olympic games in Argentina.

In 2019, he placed seventh place at the world junior championships in Budapest and completed the B rating.

He is a champion of the 2019 Pan-Armenian Games, as well as a winner and a silver and bronze medalist at the 2021 Bulgarian Open Championship.

He qualified for Tokyo 2020 by completing a B rating at the 2019 junior world swimming championship.

Artur Barseghyan will compete in the 100m freestyle in Tokyo on July 27, and in the 50m freestyle—on July 30.
