Federer pulls out of French Open

Roger Federer, the winner of 20 Grand Slams, has pulled out of the French Open, also called Roland-Garros.
The 39-year-old Swiss tennis star had reached the fourth round of this tournament and was to face Matteo Berrettini (Italy).

"After discussions with my team, I've decided I will need to pull out of Roland-Garros today," Federer said in a Sunday statement on Twitter. "After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation it's important that I listen to my body and make sure I don't push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. I am thrilled to have gotten three matches under my belt. There is no greater feeling than being back on the court."

He was participating in the third tournament after the surgeries.

To note, Federer has set a record after his win over Marin Cilic (Croatia) in the second round of Roland-Garros. He became the oldest tennis player to reach the third round of this competition—at the age of 39 years and 9 months.
