Wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan scores Armenia's second gold medal

Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg category) scored the second gold medal for the Armenia national freestyle wrestling team during the European licensed Olympic freestyle wrestling tournament in Budapest.

The 21-year-old wrestler, who has made it to the final and qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, competed with Bulgarian Georgy Vangelov for the gold medal and won 8-3.

On March 18, the 2019 European champion started from the 1/8 final and scored three victories, outscoring Belarusian Uladzislau Andreyeu (10-2), Georgian Beka Bujiashvili (10-5) and Ukrainian Andriy Yatsenko (10-0).

Today, Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg category), who has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, outscored Azerbaijani Haji Aliyev and reached the final of the European-licensed Olympic freestyle wrestling tournament in Budapest. During the final, Armenia’s representative won Olympic bronze medalist, multiple world and European champion, Azerbaijani Haji Aliyev.

Only the wrestlers who made it to the final are scoring passes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Hrayr Alikhanyan (74 kg category) and Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg category) were also part of the Armenia national freestyle wrestling team, but didn’t succeed.

Gevorg Gharibyan (60 kg category), Slavik Galstyan (67 kg category), Artur Shahinyan (87 kg category) and Davit Ovasapyan (130 kg category) performed as part of the Armenia Greco-Roman style wrestling team.
