Champions League: UEFA forces Slovakia champions to play with their substitutes

UEFA has banned Slovakia champions Slovan Bratislava from taking part with their main team in the first round of their Champions League qualifier against Klaksvik (Faroe Islands), and therefore they will have to play with their substitutes, Sport Aktuality reported.

Slovan midfielder Vladimir Weiss was diagnosed with the coronavirus before leaving for the Faroe Islands, so he did not leave with the team.

The club’s staff and other players had arrived at the venue, taken a COVID-19 test, and only the team’s physiotherapist had tested positive.

According to local law, if the coronavirus is detected, everyone on board the plane that arrived must be in self-isolation for 14 days, or return immediately.

Both clubs have applied to UEFA, and the latter has decided that Slovan can only play with their substitutes.

Otherwise the team will suffer a technical defeat.

The match has been postponed to Friday.
