Karapet Chalyan beats Arsen Julfalakyan in match for pass to 2019 International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament

Vice-champion of the Second European Games, bronze medalist of the 2016 European Wrestling Championships Karapet Chalyan will represent Armenia in the 77 kg category at the 2019 International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament.

A while ago, vice-champion of the London Olympic Games, world and European champion Arsen Julfalakyan (77 kg category) and Karapet Chalyan (77 kg category) participated in a test competition for the international Greco-Roman wrestling tournament at Stayki Olympic Sports Complex in Belarus.

In the first stage of the wrestling match, Arsen Julfalakyan was beating Julfalakyan 2-0, but in the second stage, Karapet Chalyan tied the score with the throw trick. At the end of the match, the referee gave Karapet Chalyan a warning for being passive, but the match ended with Chalyan’s victory. Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan was a witness to Karapet Chalyan’s victory and posted a live video of the wrestling match on his official Instagram.

This was the fourth wrestling match between Arsen Julfalakyan and Karapet Chalyan. Karapet had won the previous three matches as well. In 2018, he celebrated his victories at the Vladislav Petlyansky Commemorative Championship (3-1), the final of the Armenian Wrestling Championship (5-3) and the Kiev International Wrestling Tournament (2-0).

Arsen Julfalakyan scored the bronze medal at the 2019 European Wrestling Championship and has set the goal to compete for a pass to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Levon Julfalakyan’s team is currently holding its last training in Belarus ahead of the international championship.

On August 27, Olympic champion, head coach of the Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling team Levon Julfalakyan will give a news conference devoted to the International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament to be held from September 14 to 22 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
