Կանանց 5000 մետր վազքի եզրափակիչում օլիմպիական երկու մեդալները նվաճեցին Եթովպիայի ներկայացուցիչները: Մեսերետ Դեֆարը հռչակվեց օլիմպիական չեմպիոն: Երրորդը Տիրունեշ Դիբաբան է: Իսկ քենիացի Վիվիան Ջեփքեմոյ Չերույոտը նվաճեց արծաթե մեդալը:
