Լատվիացի Մարիս Շտրոմբերգսը նվաճեց Լատվիայի առաջին ոսկե մեդալը 30-րդ Օլիմպիական խաղերում։ Լեռնային հեծանիվի տղամարդկանց մրցումներում լատվիացի մարզիկը գերազանցեց Ավստրալիայի եւ Կոլումբիայի ներկայացուցիչներին։
