Թունիսը նվաճեց առաջին ոսկե մեդալը 30-րդ Օլիմպիական խաղերում։ Լողի տղամարդկանց մարաթոնում (10 կմ) չեմպիոնի տիտղոսը նվաճեց Ուսամա Մելուլին։
Երկրորդ եւ երրորդ տեղերը գրավեցին Գերմանիայի եւ Կանադայի ներկայացուցիչները։
