Ջամայկացի Քիշանե Թոմփսոնը 9,79 (.789) վայրկյան արդյունքով երկրորդն է։ Հաղթողին պարզելու համար կիրառվեց ֆոտոֆինիշ։
Բրոնզե մեդալակիր դարձավ ամերիկացի Ֆրեդ Քերլին՝ 9,81։
Առաջին անգամ 100 մետր վազքի օլիմպիական եզրափակիչում բոլոր վազորդները 10-ից վայրկյանից արագ անցան մրցատարածությունը, երբ չի եղել ուժեղ քամի։ Եզրափակիչի ժամանակ քամու արագությունը +1.0 մետր/վայրկյան համընթաց էր։
