London Olympics 2012: Armenia’s Yuri Patrikeev advances to 1/8 finals

16:38   6 August, 2012

Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestler Yuri Patrikeev defeated Olympic champion Khasan Baroev in the qualification of 120 kilogram category.

It is Patrikeev’s second victory over Baroev this year. In April Armenian wrestler defeated the Russian in qualification tournament in Sofia.

Patrikeev’s next opponent is Iran’s Babajanzadeh Darzi Bashir Asgari.

Baroev’s participation in the 2004 Olympic Games urged Patrikeev to leave Russia’s national. Back in 2004 the coaches entrusted Baroev to represent Russia at the Olympics. After winning gold in Athens, Baroev managed to reach the Beijing finals but was defeated by Cuba’s Mijain Lopes. Patrikeev won bronze.
