Armenia’s Avagyan qualifies for Olympics in boxing

Armenia on Saturday secured its third Olympic qualification at the boxing tournament being held in Samsun, Turkey.

In the bout for third place, Aram Avagyan (56kg) defeated his Ukrainian opponent, won a bronze medal, and qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

On Friday, Armenia’s Artur Hovhannisyan (49kg) and Narek Abgaryan (52kg), had reached the finals in their weight classes, and therefore secured Olympic qualifications.
