UEFA did not forbid holding a minute of silence in memory of former football player of Liverpool and Betis, 23-year-old Miki Roque, who died of cancer, the official website of the organization states.

Earlier on Wednesday the Spanish Football Federation sent a request to UEFA asking to hold a minute of silence before the Portugal – Spain match in honor of the footballer’s memory, however the request was refused.

“UEFA wants to state that no request on holding a minute of silence in honor of Miki Roque was received from the Royal Football Federation. Articles, stating about the refusal of UEFA are groundless,” the statement of UEFA reads.
