Candidates Tournament: Aronian shares point with Veselin Topalov

In Round 10 of the Candidates Tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship, which is held in the Russian capital city of Moscow, Armenian Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian played a draw with white pieces against outsider GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria). The match ended on the 58th move.

Consequently, Aronian shares 3rd and 4th places, with 5.5 points.

GM Fabiano Caruana (America) defeated the former World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand (India) with white pieces, gaining 6 points and thus equaling with GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia) who leads the current standings. The latter, for his part, has shared one point with GM Anish Giri (Netherlands).

In the 11th round, Aronian will play against Peter Svidler (Russia).

The winner of the Candidates Tournament, which has about a €420-thousand prize fund, will be the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship against the reining champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), from November 11 to 30, in New York.
