World Chess Candidates Tournament: Armenia’s Aronian to first face Giri of Netherlands

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—will compete against GM Anish Giri (Netherlands), in the first round of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) World Chess Candidates Tournament, the FIDE website informed.

The winner of this tournament, whose prize fund is about €420 thousand, will play against the reining World Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), for this title.
