FIDE: Armenian president recommended chess players to take part in Baku tournament

President of the Armenian chess federation Serzh Sargsyan met with GMs Levon Aronian, Hrant Melkumyan, Gabriel Sargissian, Samve Ter-Sahakyan and recommended them to take part in the Chess World Cup in Baku, FIDE website reported.

President Sargsyan told FIDE President Ilyumzhinov about his position during a telephone conversation on Monday.

The FIDE President told Serzh Sargsyan to render the assistance in the matter of participation of the Armenian players in this major event.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov also discussed the matter with Azerbaijani Sport Minister Azad Rahimov

who assured that all security measures would be in place on the highest level for the safe organization of the World Cup including the safety of participants of the tournament.

Baku will host the tournament from September 10 to October 5.
