The first vice-president of the Russian Football Union, Nikita Simonyan, commented on Friday’s International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) presidential election, in which 79-year old Joseph “Sepp” Blatter was elected FIFA President for a fifth term.

“I’m pleased. Who else could I have supported? Who said that World Cup 2018 will be held in Russia? Blatter has always had a friendly attitude toward Russian football. He has done a lot for world football.

“At this point, Blatter has no equal in football governance in terms of experience, professionalism, and democratic approach.

“When Blatter ends this term [in office], it will be difficult to elect someone else,” TASS news agency of Russia quoted Simonyan as saying.
