The former captain of the Azerbaijan national football squad, Tarlan Ahmadov, told how he was offered to fix the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Turkey.

Ahmadov, who is now the manager of AZAL PFK (Azerbaijan), noted that even the Azerbaijani politicians had put pressure on him in this matter.

“They suggested us to sell the game, [but] I strongly refused stating that I will not get on the pitch if the match was fixed.

“You won’t believe, but even some MPs were trying to pressure me to contribute to the win of the Turkish [national] team,” Azerifootball quoted the retired Azerbaijani player as saying.
