Chess news on Armenian players

YEREVAN. – Armenian Grandmaster (GM) Hovhannes Gabuzyan tallied 5.5 points, out of possible 9 points, and came in fourth among 28 participants in the Crespi Memorial chess tournament that was held in Milan, Italy.

At present, Gabuzyan is competing in an open in Padova, Italy. He has garnered 2 points after two rounds and currently leads the standings, together with seven other players.

Separately, Armenian WGM Lilit Mkrtchian leads, with 4 points after six rounds, the women’s round-robin chess tournament being held in Wrocław, Poland.

Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian, on the other hand, defeated GM Julio Becerra (USA), and by a score of 4.5-1.5, at the chess match that was held in Lawrence, USA, Armchess reported.
