Tigran Petrosian memorial chess tournament opens (PHOTOS)

MOSCOW. – The official opening of the International TASHIR chess tournament in memory of Tigran Petrosian, and devoted to the 85th birth anniversary of the 9th World Chess Champion, was held in Moscow, the NEWS.am Sport reporter informed from the Russian capital city.  

The world’s top eight chess grandmasters will compete in this event, which will run from November 4 to 11. The prize fund of the competition is 100,000 euros. And aside from the 25,000 euros, the tournament winner will also receive a special souvenir. World Chess Federation (FIDE) President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Russian Chess Federation President Andrey Filatov also attended and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony. In addition, a short film devoted to Tigran Petrosian was screened, and the competition draws were made at the event.
