Barça refuse to establish football academy in Azerbaijan

FC Barcelona did not want to set up an academy in Azerbaijan, stated Elkhan Mammadov, General Secretary of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan.

“We are holding talks with various clubs. We wanted to open [AFC] Ajax’s [Holland] academy, but it’s too expensive. We plan to also set up the Sporting [Portugal] academy, but there must be benefit from it.

“We conducted negotiations with Barcelona, but they did not want to set up an academy; they will hold courses only,” Azerisport quotes Mammadov as saying.
