FIDE: Aronian trails solely behind Carlsen
13:06 31 March, 2014The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has issued its rankings for April 2014.
Even though Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia—is still second in the new FIDE rankings, he dropped 18 points from his rating score in the March rankings.
2013 World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), continues to top the list, whereas former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India) has leapfrogged GM Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) to third.
The Armenian national chess team has three more representatives in the world top 100 rankings; they are GMs Gabriel Sargissian (63rd), Vladimir Akopian (72nd), and Sergei Movsesian (76th).
Levon Aronian placed penultimate sixth in the Candidates Tournament 2014 that wrapped up Sunday in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, and which Anand won.
