YEREVAN. – The European Taekwondo Championships will get underway in Manchester, England, on May 3. And Armenia’s national team, which likewise will compete at the event, is currently training at Abovyan city Sports Facility.

NEWS.am Sport caught up with the squad member, 2010 European champion Haykaz Samvelyan (58), and below is an excerpt from the interview.

How are the trainings going?

Everything is perfect. We are getting ready to leave for London on May 1. The training schedule is very hectic, which is normal, if we take into account the significance of a tournament like the European Championships. All the boys are in good condition.

How are the trainings of Arman Yeremyan [80 kg], who qualified for the Olympics?

Very good. Arman trains with the general group. On April 14, the other boys and I became Armenia’s champions in [the capital] Yerevan.

What are your expectations from the European Championships?

We all are hopeful to perform well and win medals. All the boys are in a fighting mood. We intend to show what we are capable of.
