Kazan 2013: Kirakosyan wins Armenia’s first gold

Tigran Kirakosyan, who represents Armenia, won a gold medal in the sambo wrestling competition of the 27th World University Games being held in Kazan, Russia.

Kirakosyan (52 kg) started his campaign from the quarterfinals, and by defeating his Russian and Georgian opponents, he advanced to the final, where he defeated the representative of Kazakhstan.

To note, this is Armenia’s first gold medal in Kazan.

Earlier, freestyle wrestler Davit Safaryan (66 kg) and boxer Artur Kirajyan (64 kg) won silver medals, and boxer Henrik Mokoyan (56 kg) received a bronze medal for Armenia.
