President of Sambo Federation: Azerbaijan and Turkey will not participate in World Championship to be held in Yerevan

Azerbaijan and Turkey will not take part in the World Sambo Championship to be held in Yerevan. We have not received any applications for participation from these countries. Mikayel Hayrapetyan, President of the Sambo Federation of Armenia, said in a conversation with journalists.

The Sambo World Championship will be held in Yerevan on 4-5 April.

Armenia has been granted the permanent right to host the World Cup tournament based on the fact that we hosted the Youth and Adult World Cups in 2022 and 2023.

“The attention to Armenia is quite high. Our rates are also high. We are confident that this year sambists will bring many medals from the international platforms,” Hayrapetyan noted. 

According to the head coach of the Armenian national team Vovik Khodjoyan, the composition of the Armenian national team at the European Championships will be determined by the results of the World Championships.

"There are many guys in our team who have won titles. At least in weight categories we are waiting for the title of champion. For us, the World Championship tournament will be a preliminaries as the team is preparing for the European Championship to be held in May," Vovik Hojoyan said.

The federation president said that Azerbaijan and Turkey have not submitted applications, Russia and Ukraine will take part.

“About 300 sambists from 17 countries will take part. They will compete in 26 weight categories: men in 7 weight categories, the same number of women, combat sambo: men in 7 weight categories, women in 5 weight categories," Mikayel Hayrapetyan said.
