Champions League: Man City, Real make it to quarterfinals

English Premier League champions Manchester City and Real Madrid have reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Titleholders Man City hosted Copenhagen in the second leg of the Round of 16 and won 3-1.

City's Swiss defender Manuel Akanji opened the score of the match in the fifth minute. In the ninth minute, Argentine midfielder Julian Alvarez doubled the advantage of the home team. In the 29th minute, Copenhagen’s Norwegian striker Mohamed Elyounoussi reduced the score difference. And Erling Haaland, the Norwegian star forward of the Manchester club, made the score 3-1 in the third added minute of the first half.

Manchester City had won 3-1 in the first leg in Denmark.

In the other match of the day, Real Madrid hosted RB Leipzig, and the two teams played a 1-1 draw.

Real's Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior opened the score of the match in the 65th minute. And in the 68th minute, the Hungarian defender of the guests, Willi Orban, restored the parity.

Real reached the quarterfinals thanks to their 1-0 win in the first leg.

The previous day, French Ligue 1 champions PSG and German Bundesliga titleholders Bayern Munich had qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
