01:01   22 November, 2022

The USA played Wales to a 1-1 draw in the first round of Group B at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Lille's 22-year-old striker Timothy Weah, son of Liberian President George Weah, scored the USA's goal in the 36th minute.

Wales drew level in the 82nd minute when their leader, 33-year-old striker Gareth Bale of Los Angeles FC, converted a penalty.

The last time Wales participated in a World Cup was in 1958, and before Weah, they had conceded a goal from Brazilian football legend Pele.

The current leaders of Group B are England, which defeated Iran 6-2 earlier in the day. The USA and Wales are second and third, with 1 point each.

In the second round of this group, USA will face England and Wales—Iran on Friday.
