Rafael Nadal (Spain) could not advance to the third round of the Cincinnati Masters being held in the US.
The third ranked men’s tennis player of the world faced 152nd ranked Borna Coric (Croatia) in the Round of 32, and lost in three sets—6:7 (9), 6:4, and 3:6. The match lasted 2 hours and 54 minutes.
Nadal was competing in a tournament for the first time—since withdrawing from the Wimbledon semifinals due to an abdominal muscle injury—in preparation for the US Open, which will be held from August 29 to September 11 in New York.
The prize pool of the Cincinnati Masters is $6.2 million.
