Armenian anthem and flag honored in Istanbul: Armenian chess team becomes legend - VIDEO

Armenia’s national chess team, which is now triple Olympic champion, becomes the winner of Istanbul Chess Olympiad-2012. During the official closing ceremony of Chess Olympics Armenian anthem was played and Armenian flag was raised in Istanbul.

All players of Armenian team, Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Sergey Movsisyan, Gabriel Sargsyan, Tigran Petrosyan, and the team coach Arshak Petrosyan became gold medalists of the Olympics. In addition, Levon Aronian and Vladimir Akopian received medals for best individual achievements. Aronian won another gold medal for best results – seven points out of ten possible – on the board number one. Vladimir Akopian won silver medal for best results – 7.5 points out of ten possible – on the board number three.

In the last game Armenian team defeated Hungary’s national with a score of 2.5:1.5. Sergey Movsisyan won Zoltan Almasi, while Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargsyan and Levon Aronian ended their plays with Judit Polgar, Ferenc Berkes and Peter Leko in a draw.

Armenian national became an Olympic champion for the first time in Turin in 2006. In 2008 during Chess Olympics in Dresden Armenian players won again and became Olympic champions for the second time.
