Shaquille O’Neal’s LA Lakers jersey to be retired (PHOTOS)

The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Los Angeles Lakers club will formally retire NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 34 jersey which he wore while playing for the Lakers. His jersey will officially be put up at Lakers’ Staples Center on December 28. 

O’Neal played nine seasons for the Lakers during which he became NBA champion, he was declared the NBA’s most valuable player in 2000, and he played in fifteen NBA All-Star games.

Shaquille O’Neal was born on March 6, 1972, and is nicknamed “Shaq.” He is an American retired basketball player, former rapper, and current television program  analyst. Standing 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall and weighing 325 pounds (147 kg), he was one of the heaviest players ever to play in the NBA. Throughout his 19-year career, O’Neal used his size and strength to overpower opponents for points and rebounds.
