London 2012: Armenian Olympians - Arsen Julfalakyan

NEWS.am Sport launches a series of articles presenting 25 Armenian participants of the London 2012 Olympics which will kick off on July 27.

Arsen Julfalakyan - Greco-Roman wrestling

Born on May 8, 1987

At the London Olympics Arsen will present Armenia in the category 74 kg. He started wrestling in 1998. He twice won the Junior European Championship medals (2003, 2004). He is the best European junior wrestler (2004), bronze medalist of the Youth Olympic Games (2002), silver medalist of European Youth Championship (2006), bronze medalist of the same tournament in 2005, winner of the Youth World Championship (2007), European Champion (2009 ), bronze medalist of European Championship (2012), silver (2010) and bronze (2011) medalist of the World Cup.

He qualified to the Olympics in Istanbul. Arsen Julfalakyan is not married. His personal coach is Samvel Gevorgyan, national’s coach - Levon Julfalakyan. Arsen will start competitions on August 5.

Arsen Julfalakyan:

”The way an athlete has passed shows him what he can hope for and what to expect from the upcoming competition.

I believe that I can cheer Armenia, as I am confident in my power. After the World Cup I was preparing for the Olympics, and will do my utmost to win gold.”

Samvel Grigoryan:

”By his numerous victories Arsen proved that he is one of the favorites in his weight category in any tournament, the Olympic Games is not an exception. I should note that Julfalakyan have every opportunity to achieve the first prize.

The tournament will be difficult, as everyone will try to win medals. I hope the experience and skills will play a crucial role, and we will return to Armenia with medals.”
