Belgium defeated Sweden 1-0, whereas reining European Championship runners-up Italy lost to Ireland with the same score in Wednesday’s third-round Group E matches in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Euro 2016, which France is hosting.
Italy and Belgium placed first and second, respectively, in this group, Ireland came in third but advanced to the knockout stage, whereas Sweden bid farewell to the tournament.
It is noteworthy, however, that no national squad could finish the group stage with a 100 percent result.
The Round of 16 fixtures are as follows: Switzerland vs. Poland, Wales vs. Northern Ireland, Croatia vs. Portugal, France vs. Ireland, Germany vs. Slovakia, Hungary vs. Belgium, Italy vs. Spain, and England vs. Iceland.
The knockout stage in Euro 2016 will kick off on Saturday.
