Watzke: We decided that Mkhitaryan shall stay at Dortmund next season

Borussia Dortmund (BVB; Germany) has decided to keep Armenia national football squad midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the next season, too, stated Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

“We at the club actively discussed the option of parting ways with Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of time, and we decided that he should stay at BVB also next season,” Bild daily newspaper of Germany quoted Watzke.

The Armenia international’s Italian agent, Mino Raiola, had noted that the 27-year-old midfielder wishes to transfer to Manchester United (England), and that they continue their efforts to make it happen.

Mkhitaryan’s working contract with the German club runs until the summer of 2017, but the parties cannot come to an agreement on its extension.

Earlier it was reported that Man United are prepared to pay €24 million for Henrikh’s transfer, and that they have offered an annual salary of €10 million to the captain of the Armenia national squad.

José Mourinho, the newly appointed manager of the 20-time football champions of England, is interested in the Mkhitaryan transfer.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored 11 goals and had 18 assists in 31 appearances in the German Bundesliga competition last season for Dortmund.
