Candidates Tournament: Aronian vs. Anand

Round 9 will be played Monday at the Candidates Tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship, which is held in the Russian capital city of Moscow.

In this round, Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, will face the former World Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India).

They had played a draw in their previous match in this competition.

After 8 rounds, Aronian and GM Sergey Karjakin (Russia) are the leaders with 5 points apiece.

The winner of the Candidates Tournament, which has about a €420-thousand prize fund, will be the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship against the reining champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), from November 11 to 30, in New York.
