European Team Chess Championship: Armenia are silver medalists

The Armenian men’s national team captured second place with 13 points, after the Russians, at the 2015 European Team Chess Championship which wrapped up Sunday in Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland. 

In addition, Armenia’s men won individual awards.

Grandmaster (GM) Hrant Melkumyan tallied 6.5 points in nine rounds and won a gold medal. 

Armenia’s top ranking chess player, GM Levon Aronian, garnered 6 points and won a silver medal.

And GM Gabriel Sargissian amassed 5.5 points in eight matches and became a bronze medalist. 

Armenia’s women, on the other hand, placed eleventh with 10 points.
