Youri Djorkaeff: I’d definitely like to coach Armenian squad, I’ve got Armenian blood

YEREVAN. - A charity match between the squads of ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank and journalists took place in Yerevan’s Pyunik Stadium today. The match ended 1-1.

World and Europe Champion from the French National Squad Youri Djorkaeff joined the bank’s squad, taking part in the second half.

After the match, the legendary footballer talked to media representatives, NEWS.am Sport correspondent reports.

“I attach great importance to such events and myself take part in their organization. I organize [such] events in New York every year, and the amount gathered is directed to the charity fund. Armenia’s national squad is a good one. It’s a pity that our squad started badly in the Euro-2015 qualifier. But the stable and painstaking work and the conditions for trainings currently created in Armenia will ensure success in the future. It’s utterly important that children – as many as possible - go in for sport, and later represent their country with honor on the international stage.

Armenia is the country of my ancestors. I’ve got Armenian blood in my veins. Of course, I’d like to coach the Armenian squad one day.

During all my career, I played with world class footballers. The best of them was definitely Brazilian Ronaldo.

I’d like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I was glad to be here. I’m grateful for the attention. On October 4, I’ll take part in the Half Marathon, which I was invited to attend by our champion Robert Emmiyan,” Djorkaeff said.

Youri Djorkaeff will take part in the International Half Marathon to be held in capital city Yerevan on Sunday.
