Baku: Armenian chess master’s opponents are announced

Lots have been drawn for the first round in the Chess World Cup 2015, which will get underway on September 10 in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku.

Team Armenia at the event will comprise Grandmasters (GMs) Levon Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian, Hrant Melkumyan, and Samvel Ter-Sahakyan.

The first-round lot results are as follows:

Levon Aronian – Michael Wiedenkeller (Luxembourg)
Gabriel Sargissian – Mateusz Bartel (Poland)
Hrant Melkumyan – Gata Kamsky (USA)
Samvel Ter-Sahakyan – Nikita Vitiugov (Russia)

In addition, American Armenian GMs Varuzhan Akobian and Samuel Sevian will play for Team USA in the tournament. 

In Round 1, Akobian and Sevian will face Viktor Laznicka (Czech Rep) and Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan), respectively.
