European Games: Azerbaijan athlete is stripped of gold

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) on Saturday announced that Ethiopian track and field athlete Chaltu Beji, who represents Azerbaijan, has been found to have committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under EOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Baku 2015 European Games, and has been suspended from participation at the Games, reported the EOC website.

Beji, who won the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase, provided a urine sample in association with her participation in the 2015 European Games held in Baku, as part of the EOC’s in-competition testing program.

That sample was sent to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory in Moscow, Russia, for analysis.

The sample was found to contain osterine, which is a prohibited substance. The B-sample was also found to contain osterine.

As a result, Azerbaijan’s representative was stripped of her gold medal.
