Tata Steel Chess: Aronian vs. Jobava

After the day of rest on Monday, Round 9 will be played Tuesday at the Tata Steel Masters chess super tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who is currently fifth in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions, Armenia—will face GM Baadur Jobava (Georgia) in this round.

Aronian has recorded two defeats and six draws after eight rounds, and as a result, he is currently tenth in the tournament, with 3 points. 

Jobava, on the other hand, is in last place with 1.5 points.

The reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who is first in the FIDE rankings, leads the competition with 6 points.
