Armenia’s Aronian to compete in Netherlands and US

YEREVAN. – Armenian Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian, who is a four-time Tata Steel Chess Tournament winner, again will participate in this competition, which will be held from January 10 to 25, 2015 in Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands, Armchess reported.

The opponents of Aronian—who is third in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—will be Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Fabiano Caruana (Italy), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Wesley So (USA), Ding Liren (China), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan), Ivan Saric (Croatia), Hou Yifan (China), and Loek Van Wely (Netherlands).

Before this event, however, Levon Aronian will have a match with GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) in Saint Louis, USA, at the end of November.

This match is expected to comprise four classic and sixteen blitz games.
