Armenia President awards Arsen Julfalakyan and Artur Aleksanyan (PHOTOS)

YEREVAN. – On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Armenia’s independence, and with President Serzh Sargsyan’s decree, Greco-Roman wrestlers Arsen Julfalakyan and Artur Aleksanyan on Sunday were awarded the highest state awards, President.am reported. 

To note, Julfalakyan and Aleksanyan won gold medals at the 2014 Wrestling World Championships that were held recently in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.

The award ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace.

“Today, we are happy to meet our two giants of Greco-Roman wrestling, who won the world champion’s title in Tashkent and in honor of whom our national anthem was played.

“These two gold medals were as much expected as glorious. I congratulate our athletes, coaches and all those who put their efforts into gaining this victory.

“Of course, it is not accepted practice to express a wish during official ceremonies, but I am confident that our two champions will become Olympic champions,” President Sargsyan said at the award ceremony, and with respect to Arsen Julfalakyan and Artur Aleksanyan.  

On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Armenia’s Independence, President Serzh Sargsyan signed decrees to award high state decorations and honorary titles to a group of representatives also from the domains of science, economy, health, culture, several Diaspora Armenians, and a number of servicemen from the Armed Forces, the National Security Service, and the law enforcement agencies.
